The New Us - Back in the Game

Rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated, though perhaps reasonably relied upon. But as we prepare to enter our third year of law school and approach the second anniversary of this blog’s launch, it’s about time you know who I am.

Hi! My name is Derek. By day I work at a PR firm in the DC area. By night, at least nine months out of the year, I’m a law student at Catholic University. I’m married to my best friend and favorite person in the world. I am intrigued by media, technology, politics, and many other various things. I love golf (even if I’m terrible at it) and being outdoors (even if I don’t get to do it as often as I’d like).  If you want to know more, check out the About page for information on how to connect with me through various other social networks.

To this point, I’ve blogged under the pen name, “Casebook Sherpa.” Doing so has enabled me to fly under the radar for the most part without fear of repercussions in my legal career or law school classes. But I never really used this anonymity to say original things or criticize the things I think are wrong with law school and legal  jobs, among many other things. Basically, the anonymity wasn’t really protecting me for any worthwhile purpose. Rather, it allowed me to let the blog sit for months at a time without new content. Blogs can’t work like that, and I want this blog to continue. So, though there are number of blogs that function successfully and anonymously, this just isn’t one of them.

So over the next few months I’ll be blogging a good deal on two topics: career advice for evening law school students and serving as an editor on a law journal. These are the two things consuming my life of late and you’ll get to share in my misery …. er, I mean joy. Of course, we’ll continue to have our normal commentary on various things that interest us, links to other stories, and generally snarky comments on whatever comes up. Hopefully, I’ll be joined by some of my comrades at as well as some new friends, who may or may not blog anonymously, it’s totally up to them.

I’m slowly working on some redesign concepts that may include a shift of the blog from WordPress to Squarespace, but that shouldn’t impact your experience.
